Description

Get away from the crowds and into the wilderness on one of the best Skagway day tours for seeing true Alaskan wildlife! The Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing Tour takes you through Haines, AK to the Chilkoot River Corridor for pristine wildlife opportunities surrounded by beautiful jagged peaks. A true Alaskan experience, travel with your guide through the Chilkoot Valley while they provide a thorough narrative of the plant life, geology, and abundant wildlife that make this area so special. Don't forget your cameras, you are sure to see some delights along this journey!

When you begin your search for bears on this Skagway day tour, be prepared for the beauty to start immediately! On your Fast Ferry ride from Skagway to Haines, you will be greeted by looming glacier-carved peaks and perhaps even some marine wildlife. Once arriving in Haines, the Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing experience will detour for a minute from natural delights, to show you the historic Fort Seward, Alaska's first military base. From here, you will start your journey into the Chilkoot Valley, following along the Lynn Canal where you can watch for seals, sea lions, porpoises, and even whales!

Once you reach the Chilkoot River, the excitement really begins. This river is home to a massive amount of spawning salmon, which makes it ideal for hungry bears looking for a meal. The Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing experience gets its name from this portion of the tour, where you will find brown bears, mountain goats, eagles, river otters, and an abundance of migrating birds to delight. After getting your fill of beautiful wildlife, you will head back to the shoreline to fill your bellies with a picnic on a private beach. Finally, head to the Chilkat River to glimpse all 5 species of wild Pacific salmon (and possibly a few more bears!) before heading back to Haines for your return journey to Skagway.

Please Note: This tour does not begin operation until mid-July to maximize your potential to see bears.
