Taste of Ketchikan: Wild Alaskan Salmon Cooking Class
Description
This experience is about slowing down and spending time in a real local kitchen. It’s a 2-hour, hands-on cooking class where you’ll prepare food, share a meal, and get a feel for everyday life in Southeast Alaska.
After meeting near the cruise ship dock, you’ll walk a short distance to the kitchen space and get introduced to the group and the plan for the day. The menu centers on Wild Alaskan salmon and a few familiar local dishes. The goal isn’t perfection or fancy techniques. It’s about learning how to make these meals at home, using straightforward methods and good ingredients.
Everyone takes part in the cooking. You’ll prep, cook, and ask questions as you go, with guidance throughout the class. The pace stays comfortable, whether you’re new to cooking or already confident in the kitchen. There’s time to talk, laugh, and learn while the food comes together.
The conversation naturally turns to local food, seasonal ingredients, and daily life in this part of Alaska. The setting feels friendly and informal, like cooking alongside people you’ve just met but quickly get comfortable with.
Once the meal is ready, the group sits down together to eat what you’ve made. You’ll enjoy fresh flavors, good company, and an easy ending before walking back toward the ship. It’s a warm, simple way to spend part of your port day and leave with more than just photos.
