The Helicopter Glacier Walkabout tour is your chance to explore the majestic Juneau Icefield, an awe-inspiring landscape of snow-capped peaks and ancient glaciers. Soar over the glaciers and ice formations, taking in the breathtaking views, before landing on the massive ice field for an hour-long trek that will immerse you into this utterly alien landscape. Led by a team of experienced guides, you'll learn about the history and geology of the area as you safely traverse the icy terrain. This non-strenuous tour is the perfect way to experience the wonders of the Juneau Icefield, with its frozen rivers of ice, moulins, and deep crevasses, making it the best Mendenhall glacier helicopter tour in the region.

The Helicopter Glacier Walkabout tour includes round-trip transportation from a meeting spot close to the cruise ship docks. Depending on the weather conditions, your pilot will land on one of the many glaciers in the area, such as Mendenhall, Taku, Norris, Herbert, Gilkey, Battle, or Tierl. Regardless of which glacier you visit, all of them showcase incredible beauty and allow you to explore the many remote areas of the massive Juneau Icefield, with its frozen rivers of ice, moulins, and deep crevasses. No experience is needed on this Mendenhall glacier helicopter tour, and all necessary equipment, gear, and safety instructions will be provided. However, guests must dress warmly and be comfortable walking on moderately flat, sometimes uneven, and rolling terrain. The Helicopter Glacier Walkabout tour is the perfect choice for those looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of exploring the icy wonders of a mighty glacier!

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?
Because the temperature at the glacier is quite cold, it is essential to dress warmly and in layers to ensure your safety and comfort. We recommend long pants, a hat, mid-height athletic socks, and sunglasses! Additionally, we will provide you with rain and windproof jackets and pants, hard-shell mountaineering boots, crampons, gloves, a helmet, a harness, a trekking pole, and a pack containing tissues, water, and a granola bar. Remember to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking views!
Will the pilot get out with us?
Definitely! Your pilot will be your guide throughout your helicopter tour, including your time spent on the glacier. This ensures that you will have an unforgettable, personalized experience.
What if I need extra help on the tour?
Your pilot will be with you throughout the tour, so they will be more than happy to assist whenever necessary. If you require additional support, please do not hesitate to contact us before your tour so that we can discuss your specific needs.
What kind of wildlife can I expect to see?
This is not a wildlife viewing tour, so there is no guarantee that you will see any wildlife. However, Dall sheep, caribou, and moose are often seen in the area. You may even be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of a bear! With some luck, you could be rewarded with a spectacular wildlife sighting.
How many passengers can fit in a single helicopter?
Each helicopter can safely accommodate up to six passengers, provided the weight and balance calculations are within the aircraft's parameters designed to ensure everyone's safety and comfort. Consequently, the number of passengers and their seating arrangements will be determined by the crew. If you wish to fly with more passengers or want more control over who sits where, please contact us before.
What happens if the weather is too bad to fly?
If the weather is just not cooperating and the pilots determine that it’s too bad to fly, we’ll do our best to reschedule you to a later time of day that works for you. If you choose not to reschedule or we can’t find a time that works for you, we will refund you.
