Keep in mind that this tour can depart from Girdwood or Anchorage, so please ensure you select the correct time for the location from which you want to depart. Anchorage departures are at 9:00 am and Girdwood departures are at 10:40 am.
Your journey begins as you board the train that will take you to the Turnagain Arm and take your seat next to large windows that will give you first-row seats to the wondrous Alaskan landscape. Upon arriving at the Portage stop, you will board a shuttle bus to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre, where you will spend 90 minutes exploring the area with a knowledgeable guide. During this time, you will learn about the animals that are rehabilitated at the center, the care they receive, and the circumstances that led them to be in the center's care. You can choose to explore this section of the tour on foot or in a small vehicle, giving you an incredible opportunity to get up close and personal with bears, moose, bison, and other wild animals.
After a delicious lunch break, you'll board the train and journey to the wild backcountry of the Chugach National Forest. Here, you'll make a stop at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop to begin your thrilling rafting adventure. Once outfitted and briefed, your guide will take you through the icy waters of an iceberg-covered lake, where you'll get up close and personal with these majestic ice giants. Then, you'll enjoy a picturesque float down the Placer River, which will deliver you to a shuttle that will take you back to the train for the last leg of your journey back to Portage. From there, you'll board a motorcoach that will take you back to Anchorage.
