One of the best Skagway tours, this one delivers a superb combination of scenery and wildlife opportunities. The Yukon Discovery is a full-day, guided trip from Skagway into Canada’s Yukon Territory. Starting right outside the dock, climb north in a comfortable mini-coach, gaining over 3,000 ft. up and over the White Pass summit and entering first British Columbia and then Yukon Territory. It’s not uncommon to see moose, caribou, sheep or bears along the remote Klondike Highway. Stopping in Carcross, Yukon provides time to visit a wildlife museum, a petting farm, and the chance to view adorable husky puppies as well. After lunch, continue on to Emerald Lake which is a spectacular sight – you might have to convince your friends and family that you didn’t Photoshop the pictures.

We love Yukon day trips because Skagway provides one of the rare opportunities to get on a highway and explore the interior. There are no roads in or out of Juneau or Ketchikan, so it’s no surprise that many use this opportunity to get off the coast. The narration provided by the local guide along the way paints a great backdrop of the history and atmosphere of the Klondike Gold Rush over a century ago.
We also love the sense of local flair found in Carcross that isn’t found in the port towns. It provides a slightly different experience and a glimpse into a still remote and vast land.
