Join an incredible adventure to discover the wildly scenic Sitka Sound on this small-group excursion! Guided by local experts, you'll explore remote islands and seldom-traveled passages by kayak and boat. This half-day Sitka Sound Paddle & Cruise is suitable for beginners and provides all the gear you'll need. Following a kayak skills and safety orientation, you'll head out for a leisurely paddle through the pristine waters and kelp forest. Your guide will help you identify the diverse marine life you're likely to encounter, which can include crab, sea stars, anemones, sea urchins, jelly fish, harbor seals, sea lions, and more! After about 2½ - 3 hours of kayking, you'll arrive at the island where you can enjoy some beachcombing and a hearty snack while taking in the serene environment and stunning views. You'll receive a wealth of information about the area from your local guide along the way, including how the native Tlingit people have utilized the ocean's harvest for centuries. Lastly, an exciting 30-minute cruise in a specialized boat takes you back to town! You'll leave this tour with fond memories of Sitka's majestic wilderness and fascinating marine life. Please note that this tour can run in reverse, with the boat ride to the island and kayaking back to town.

Are there any restrictions?
Participants must be at least 6 years of age and weigh at least 40 pounds. The kayaks can fit guests with a maximum height of 6-ft 6-inches, and a maximum weight of 275 lbs.
What is provided and what should I bring?
Expert guides, kayaks, paddle gear, snacks and bottled water are provided. We recommend wearing layered clothing, comfortable shoes, and a warm hat. We also suggest bringing sunglasses, binoculars, possibly rain gear, and of course a camera!
Where is the meeting location?
Sitka is a small town and easy to navigate. From the cruise ship dock a complimentary shuttle will take you downtown where our 'Big Blue Bus' will be waiting. Detailed meeting instructions will be provided on your voucher upon booking.
I've never kayaked before, can I do this tour?
Absolutely! No previous kayaking experience is necessary. This excursion is perfect for first-timers as well as those with experience. The kayaks are large, 2-person kayaks that are quite stable. All of the nearby islands provide calmer, bay-like conditions for the paddle. First time jitters are common, but the small-group setting means you'll have lots of personal attention from the guide and after the instruction you'll be able to dabble about in the crystal clear shallows to get comfortable before we set out to explore our first group of islands.
What if the weather is bad?
Rain is common in Southeast alaska but fortunately it does not diminish the beauty, fun, or safety of sea kayaking. We will outfit you with the proper rainproof gear if necessary. We will cancel guided tours and provide a refund if we determine paddling conditions to be unsafe: strong wind, very choppy seas, greatly reduced visibility, or a combination thereof. These conditions don’t occur often, but when they do, the safety of our guests is our highest priority.
