Description

A high-flying, treetop activity that is perfect for the thrill-seeking adventurer. The Rainforest Canopy Zipline features eight lines, three skybridges, and delivers high-adrenaline fun in the setting of the lush Tongass Forest.

Round-trip transportation is provided, and you'll start the journey with a pick-up right near the cruise docks in downtown Ketchikan. Upon arrival at Herring Cove, a 4x4 Unimog carries you up the steep hill to the canopy chalet. Your expert guides will go over a detailed safety orientation, then you'll gear up for your fun adventure through the stunning rainforest. Towering sitka spruce and cedar dominate this area, and you'll soon be "flying" in between these monstrous treetops! Any nerves will be settled as you ease into the course with the first and shortest line at 100 ft. Put your faith in your trusty guides as you work your way towards the exhilarating 850 ft zipline!

Did we mention this course backs up to a 40-acre rainforest sanctuary? Eagles and sometimes black bears are spotted below while you soar through the canopy above. Three skybridges connect the platforms and provide great photo opportunities. The highest point, 135 ft above the forest floor, provides incredible views of the landscape. You'll finish the last zip station over the grassy wetlands to a viewing tower at 55 ft above the ground. Here, you'll rappel down to complete your canopy adventure.

Before your return transporation back to town, explore the private reserve that includes a historic sawmill, totem park, raptor exhibit, and gift shop. If you're looking to get into the Alaskan outdoors with a tinge of adventure built into the mix, we highly recommend this excursion for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

How many ziplines are included on this tour?
This tour consists of 8 ziplines and 3 skybridges, ranging from a short 100 feet up to 850 feet. You will be up to 135 feet above the forest floor. The final zip-line emerges from the rainforest and transports you over lush grassy wetlands to a viewing tower at 55 feet above the ground, where you'll rappel to the ground.
What if our cruise ship's schedule is canceled or delayed?
We will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, then you will receive a refund, less any non-refundable fees.
What should I bring? Are cameras okay?
Closed-toe shoes are required and long pants and layered clothing are recommended. Some guests show up with the clothes on their back and the smile on their face. Other guests show up with a small backpack that contains an extra clothing layer, a bottle of water, a snack and other personal items. So, it's up to you! Space is often limited on the shuttle, so it's best to keep your items to a minimum, but bring what you need. While on the tour, you're welcome to use your camera to snap photos of the beautiful scenery, yourself and your group! A smaller camera works best, but if you're comfortable bringing your DSLR you may; however, they can be burdensome while zipping at times. Keep in mind that you will be several stories above the forest floor at times while ziplining, so if you drop your camera it will likely not survive; for this reason, be sure that your camera has secure neck & wrist straps or is compact enough to fit in the small zippered hand pocket of the provided rain jacket. If bringing a large camera, the staff ultimately determines if your camera may be taken on the course, as it pertains to your safety and the safety of other guests and our guides. Additionally, we have photographers ready and waiting for you to fly through the trees, with your photos available for purchase after your adventure. Once you arrive at the zipline course, your guides will collect the group's belongings and secure them. Upon completing your tour, you will be able to quickly retrieve your personal items!
What are the requirements to join this tour?
Guests must weigh between 70-250 pounds. Additionally, there is a minimum height requirement of 57 inches. This experience involves active participation over an extended period of time. Participants should be adventurous and in good physical condition. Guests with mobility limitations, women who may be pregnant, and those with a seizure disorder should obtain medical advice and release prior to participating. A waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed.
What makes this zipline tour different from any other in Alaska?
It's true that you'll find several ziplining options along the cruise route, and this one can be distinguished mainly by its scenic location. Nestled in a private reserve in the Tongass National Forest, wildlife sightings are much more common on this ziplining excursion than any other in Alaska.
What if it's raining?
We zip rain or shine! Rain jackets will be provided at the start of the tour. We recommend you dress warm and in layers if the weather is cooler, rainy, or windy.
Is ziplining safe?
Safety is fundamental to our operations. Our safety policies and procedures eclipse the standards established by the Association for Challenge Course Technology, the recognized authority in this field. We use state of the art equipment, provide extensive guide training, and conduct our tours in a safe environment. We use state-of-the-art course gear.
