Description

Do you like whales and drinking award-winning Alaskan beers? If so, the Ales & Whales tour is for you! Take in the sights as you cruise through Auke Bay, searching for whales and other wildlife. Your naturalist guide shares their knowledge of the area's 150 humpback whales that have been officially documented in Juneau's protected waters. Then, the fun continues on at the famous Alaskan Brewing Company! Choose between twenty delicious brews for your flight samples and kick back in the tasting room! This is the Juneau whale watching tour for those looking to experience two of Juneau's main attractions - Ales & Whales!

Your wildlife and beer adventure begins with pick up in front of the Mt. Roberts Tramway (next to the cruise ship docks). On the drive out to the harbor, your guide tells historic tales of Alaska's Capital City as you pass through downtown. Your whale watching vessel features a cozy and heated cabin with a spacious deck, so everyone is able to get a perfect view! Keep an eye out for whale tails and possibly even a breaching whale! The naturalist guides make this excursion both fun and educational as they share their wealth of knowledge about these magnificent creatures. And, it's not uncommon to see other wildlife such as sea lions, porpoises, and bald eagles!

After two hours on the water for whale watching, it's time to head to the Alaskan Brewing Company that has been operating in Juneau since 1986! Enjoy your included beer flight with the samples of your choice. And, feel free to purchase additional beer, food, or souvenirs as you wish! It's the perfect end to a great day on the water in Juneau. Cheers!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are refreshments available?
There is a very light snack and water available onboard the whale watching boat. A beer flight is included and food is available for purchase at the brewery.
What if our cruise ship's schedule is canceled or delayed?
We will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, then you will receive a refund, less any non-refundable fees.
Is there a restroom on board the boat?
Yes, there is a small restroom on board the boat and also an opportunity before leaving at Auke Bay Harbor. We certainly recommend using the facilities at Auke Bay before leaving, as the onboard restrooms are quite small.
How many people are on this tour?
There are two different boats used for this tour. The enclosed jet boats seat up to 28 people, and the larger catamarans can accommodate up to 49 people (if the tour is at full capacity). There is no way to request or know in advance which boat will be used for your departure.
What should I wear/bring?
This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water and cameras. A valid ID is required for this tour.
