Experience the awe-inspiring Mendenhall Glacier up close and personal on this Mendenhall Lake canoe excursion! Glide around icebergs that have broken off from the face of the glacier and take in the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Few permits are available for access to this pristine glacial lake, be one of the few to experience these spectacular views!

Your adventure includes roundtrip transportation from downtown Juneau near the cruise ship docks. A short drive takes you to Mendenhall Lake, where your expert local guide will brief you on paddling skills and safety. You'll hop in the traditional 28-foot Tlingit-style canoe that holds up to 20 passengers. No experience is necessary! The leisurely paddle around the lake totals about 5 ½ miles, and you'll make a stop and beach the canoe at the stunning Nugget Falls waterfall. Here, enjoy an Alaskan-style snack of reindeer sausage, a salmon spread, cheese and crackers, plus a hot beverage on cold days. In addition to the stunning scenery that surrounds you, keep an eye out for wildlife including eagles, mountain goats, and even bears! Do I need canoeing experience?

Nope! Experience is not required, but guests should be in moderate to good physical condition.

Are restroom facilities available?

You'll have a chance at the canoe base to use the restroom, but after that we will be entering the great outdoors.

What if it rains?

Because much of SE Alaska is a rainforest, these trips do operate rain or shine. If weather conditions are unsafe, the trip will be canceled and we will provide a refund. This can happen on canoe trips from time to time and will be typically related to sea or lake conditions, not rain.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port. Refund?

It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases, we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will refund you.
