If you're looking for whale watching opportunities during your Alaskan cruise, Juneau is the place! The Whale Watching Tour doesn't disappoint and puts you up close and personal with all sorts of Alaskan wildlife, of course with humpback whales being the focus of this half-day Juneau shore excursion. Leaving the waters of Auke Bay on the passenger boat, captain and crew will point out playful seals, bald eagles and sea lions while cruising out to deeper waters. When whales do come into range, outdoor viewing decks provide ample space for everyone to observe and get some amazing photographs. The captain will shut off the engines, setting the tone while we anxiously await breaching humpbacks and playful orcas.

For a more comprehensive experience, consider upgrading to the Whale Watching and Glacier Tour. This offering adds in a stop at Mendenhall Glacier after whale watching to get the 'best of Juneau' all in one tour.

The picturesque humpback is of course the iconic Alaskan whale, but other wildlife opportunities fill in the gaps. Sea lions, seals, bald eagles, porpoises and orcas are all part of this ecosystem and regularly make appearances on this tour. The customized vessel ensures plenty of viewing space and photo opportunities are plentiful! Connect with Alaska's wildlife and leave with a deep appreciation for the magnificent creatures of Alaska's waters!

You've got questions, we've got answers
Q:Will we make it back to the ship in time? What if we don't?
We've never left anyone behind and only schedule tours that work well with your cruise ship's itinerary. We leave plenty of cushion so you can confidently book your trips independently.
Q:Is there a restroom on board the boat?
Yes, there is a small restroom on board the boat and also an opportunity before leaving at Auke Bay Harbor. We certainly recommend using the facilities at Auke Bay before leaving, as the onboard restrooms are quite small.
Q:What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?
It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.
Q:What should we wear and bring?
This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water and cameras.
Q:How can you guarantee that we will see whales?
The captain and crew are out there everyday, and understanding the whales' patterns and behavior is their job! Whales are creatures of habit like us and prefer certain feeding locations.
Q:How many people are on this tour?
There are a few different boats used for this tour. The enclosed jet boats seat up to 28 people, and the larger catamarans can accommodate up to 49 people (if the tour is at full capacity).

Juneau Tours& Whale Watch

This excursion was the highlight of our cruise. We saw humpback whales, doll porpoises, seals, and eagles. The crew (Ben and Jerry) were excellent with us and my children. My 10 year old daughter is big into nature and asked several questions to both crew members. They were very patient with them and answered all the questions. I would recommend this excursion and this particularly this crew to anyone who asks.

A trip with Ben and Jerry

Ben and Jerry were our tour guides. Jerry's shared his knowledge of whales behavior and it was nice to understand prior to searching for whales. We did see a few Orcas, but the Humpback were elusive. However we did see a few water spouts and the tail of one. There were too many boat tours on that day. Overall our guides did their best!

We saw multiple whales!

We were the first tour out for the season so I was skeptical on whether or not we would see any whales. We saw at least 4 or 5! Though, none breached - we got great views of blow holes, tails and a great experience!

5 stars to Jon and Emma. Jon is an experienced captain and Emma is a jewel! We boarded a vessel with room for 15 or so passengers and were rewarded with so much. Both are native Alaskans and afforded us all with interesting stories and facts of culture. We were so happy to see so many whales! We had hoped to see a few, but instead had loads of sightings and so lucky for us, even a group of Orcas. We encourage "cruisers" to look at the websites of the locals as this is where the true spirit of the North lies. We had a fantastic trip and thank Jon & Emma both for a trip of a lifetime.
